Educator Tax Deduction

If you're a teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide for grades K-12 and work at least 900 hours during the school year, you can deduct up to $300 of out-of-pocket classroom expenses ($600 if married and both spouses are eligible educators).

This deduction is "above the line," meaning you don't have to itemize to claim it.

Save those receipts for professional development course fees, books and supplies,

computer equipment, and other equipment and materials used in the classroom.
